Squirrel spotting at Formby Point
After yesterday's Safari adventure, today was a bit of a wash out.
We headed over to Formby Nature Reserve. It is a beautiful spot, where a pine forest meets the sand dunes, sloping down to the sea.
The forest is home to a red squirrel colony. Which is only now seeing a slight increase in numbers from a devastating outbreak of squirrel pox virus. Needless to say we didn't spot any squirrels. However, we had a lovely walk through the woods, down to the beach. The weather was miserable. My daughter stood at the top of the dunes, looking down to the sea and said "all we need now is the sun, and lots of people and it would be like a 'real' beach!"
It was still good to get some fresh air, and we appreciated getting back to a cosy home.
