Damp bush
A very different Okarito draped in low clouds and light rain greeted us this morning. Gosh I'm glad we were able to get yesterday's chopper flight in before the weather closed in.
I took a run up to the trig look out before breakfast. No view of the Southern Alps today but if it clears I'll see if Mum and Dad want to slowly take the track up. We pottered about 'home' drinking coffee, eating hot cross buns, reading and sorting photos on the computer.
This afternoon we've gone for a walk on the local Pakahi track. While it remained grey and overcast the bush was absolutely stunning. We didn't get mountain views but the mistiness across the Okarito Lagoon and damp bush around us held it's own beauty. It was hard to choose just one photo so I've made a montage showing images of damp bush (and since it's Holy Week, a naturally formed twig cross jeweled with droplets).
They may be in their early 80s but I'm discovering not much holds them back ;-)
A relaxing day exploring the area around Okarito, finished off with another scrumptious dinner and outstanding NZ Savignon Blanc.
