Maasvlakte 2 and the ECT in Rotterdam

With Young Fugro I visited the Maasvlakte 2 information centre and spent some time watching new land being made for new harbours to be made.

Maasvlakte 2 is the name for the expansion of the port of Rotterdam which is located west of the current Maasvlakte 1. With the expansion of 2,000 acres, the port will increase by 20 percent. On completion the ports cover a total of 12,000 hectares. On September 1, 2008, after years of planning, discussions and protests, construction started. Maasvlakte 2 is scheduled to be opened in 2013.

Also we visited the Europe Container Terminals in Rotterdam, which is the largest
company in Europe for the transshipment of containers, located in the port of Rotterdam.

It was nice to see how that works (and be out of the office for a while)
