The appliance of science
I've taken a week off work to coincide with my son's Easter holidays. Trying to find fun and interesting things to do during a rainy Scottish Easter break isn't the easiest thing in the world, but we took some recommendations and started the week at the Glasgow Science Centre. The only problem was that, probably due to the weather, so did most other parents in Central Scotland.
The Science Centre itself was very good. Lots to see and do, with almost everything requiring some sort of interaction from the kids. The sheer number of people there (it was heaving) meant that actually getting a go on anything was a bit of a nightmare, though, and even when we did get to try something there was either a queue of people impatiently waiting for us to finish or some little brat jumping in to ruin our turn (normally with the full encouragement of their parents).
Another mistake on our part was not booking our tickets in advance. A rain-soaked Easter Monday was always going to attract a huge number of families to an indoor attraction, but I really hadn't bargained on a 40 minute wait just to buy tickets. That pretty much put paid to any chance we had of seeing a film at the IMAX as well. So, we'll just have to go back later in the week to see the film (tickets booked in advance this time).
By the time we left I was convinced the day had been a bit of a disaster but it turns out Jason loved it. Looking back through some of the pictures it is clear how much he was enjoying the whole thing, but it felt like he wasn't getting a chance to do anything at the time. I definitely think it will be worth a second trip, when it's a bit quieter.
