Hue Citadel - reflection of a generation
Following a hectic morning on the internet we flagged down a cyclo driver for a whistle stop tour of Hue citadel. We can't help but feel guilty hiring an old Vietnamese man to pedal TWO relatively large Westerners through streets and up hills (small hills granted but still...) We paid him well after seeing the sweat and assured him we'd get a taxi back to the hotel. Nethertheless, there he was waiting outside the gates once we had a look around the ruins of the emperors quarters. We were however on a tight schedule so (feeling even more guilty!) we politely refused the offer and jumped in a cab. The taxi driver was eager to boast of his knowledge of premiership football, reeling off the list of every team and most of the players too...with barely an acknowledgement of interest from us!! He then turned on his 'English music' tape which to our surprise played a song already sung to us by our guide in Laos! It was all very emotional as it brought back memories of our guide Lucky who we really do miss...I hope he has a very happy and long life, long life, long life (cue rice wine)
