East meets West

There's a Christian church on Wangfujing (a street any of you who follow my journal are all to familiar with) and there are almost always Chinese couples in full wedding gear with a team of photographers getting them their perfect wedding portrait. If I ever tried to snap the building I kinda felt like they ruined it with all their love and happiness... ;) but when I took a step back it really looked quite interesting.

I usually try to get right up close to anything I want to take a picture of. I'll use a wide angle lens and try to fill in the space with some prominent subject. It's difficult. You really need to get right up in someones mug if you want to take their picture. Bad enough if they know you. Worse if they don't. I've had a lot of success with this and I'll keep doing it, but I like how small everyone looks around this large figure. I think I'll try and take a step back more often and see what happens

This is another shot from the same film as the past few days, but again processed normally. I'm getting my film organised and it looks like tomorrow will be some high speed grainy color film, then a very natural contrast film (probably a shot from the Forbidden City!), and then some lovely cheap Chinese colour film that I redscaled. I'm peaking at them now and some of them are just, ugh, like, I'm amazed at myself :)
