RIP Dr Molefi Sefularo
Today was the official funeral of our late Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Molefi Sefularo.
Traffic was quite hectic in our little street since about 06:30 this morning, with dignatories arriving at the house of the deceased, who stayed in Thatchaven Manor, the thatched roof estate next to our estate, with the high lightning protecters which are always in the way of my pictures and the favourite resting place for my little falcon.
The picture shows cars parked right next to my bedroom, on the sidewalk of our estate, up to quite a few blocks down street, there were many busses, cars, emergency vehicles etc, parked inside the estate as well. The Minister's house is far, in the back of Thatchaven Manor, and there are quite a few empty plots inside, where they had three marquee tents to accomodate the guests, as well as lots of parking!
Dr Sefularo died in a horrific car accident on Monday 5 April! We suspect that he was driving a bit fast and when he realised he's reached the offramp, he lost control of his car in the rainy and misty conditions.
He was born in Potchefstroom, where I grew up, and where my two children and my grandchild were born as well, and we were neighbours here in Hartbeespoort, for a couple of years. How small can the world be? We were walking the same streets for many years without even ever knowing each other!
He was a highly respected man, all the leaders of opposing parties praised him since Monday as well, he is going to be missed in the health Department of our country's Government! He was a highly qualified yet very humble man!
I was só touched when we watched his funeral service on telly this afternoon! His coffin was of dry, unfinished pine wood with rope as handles, nó pomp and splendoour!! Só different from most of the funerals of our power hungry government officials of late! And please note, I really don't mean to criticise, it is custom for them to have very impressive funerals, I only mention it to show how humble a person Dr Sefularo was! He was one of the most learned people in our cabinet, but we never saw him driving around our neighbourhood with an entourage, he was just a quiet resident of Hartbeespoort!
