Spring Pool
Went for a quick little hike on Leslie Street Spit this morning with Mr. Togrrl. Years of landfill and nature left to its own devices have created an un-urban wilderness that we love to explore.
The paths are covered in spring pools at this time of year. It's really muddy but we came prepared.
Nature Notes:
- The most exciting thing for today was seeing lots of garter snakes that must have just emerged from hibernation. Maybe even today!!! There were so many, so close together. We saw the normal yellow striped ones and an orange striped one and a black one.
- Pussy willows with the bees gathered around gathering pollen. So pretty - I'm used to seeing pussy willows at the flower store
- Lots of birds: yellow-rumped warblers, a savannah sparrow, phoebe, flickers, a kestrel, brown creepers....absolutely wonderful
- Bird song so loud it was like being in a National Geographic special
I will try to hang on to this weekend glow for as long as I can this week....
