Sounds and Smells of Summer
You just can't capture what the start of summer smells like.
I got off the train tonight, and Arran 22 miles across the water, is bathed in a pink and blue sunset, hazy from the heat gathered during the day, but glowing in the knowledge that everyone on the West Coast of Ayrshire is admiring her! But I was not armed with my camera, only the phone.
The air was still and warm. It has been warmer in Troon than it has been in Ayr today. The air smells different. The station is very, very quiet. Blackbirds are singing their songs in the trees, railway posts and fences. Little Sparrows are chirping through the whin bushes, disturbing the smell of peach that seems to eminate from the yellow flowers. I could take the yellowness of the Whin bush, but it wouldn't show you the smell, I could take the blackbird, but you wouldn't hear it's song. I could take the sparrows, but they were too fast for a quick snap.
In the end, I came home and prowled the garden. Cat No 2, was lounging in the garden, but decided to pretend to be active when I came in. A cat similar in build to Garfield, does not photograph well being "active". Cat No 1 was out killing something, and would be too quick for me to catch her.
The sky! I thought. The sky is light, and fluffy, and blue, and bright. If you look right into the picture, you can imagine below, the sounds and the smells I've just experienced.
