Tyne Bridge kittiwakes

The kittwakes that nest on the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle are apparently the furthest inland nesting colony in the UK. They don't scavenge on scraps like other gulls, but only eat fish (sand eels are their favourites) which is a good reflection on the quality of the water in the Tyne. They have stronger claws than other gulls, which helps them grip onto very narrow ledges. (I learnt all this from a handy information board by the river...) They are very noisy!
