The Old Burial Grounds

This is what is now know as the Bridge Street Cemetery in Northampton, Massachusetts. It was established in 1662, after the town voted that no more burials should take place next to the meeting house.

The excellent informational display, placed by the Historic Northampton Museum, tells more about the cemetery and the local area. It's amusing to read that one resident buried there, Sylvester Graham, was a temperance minister and an advocate of healthy eating who later became best known for the so-called Graham cracker!

Our town doesn't have quite as much history as Paris (where we spent January through March), but it goes back further than immediately meets the eye.
