Lady Blantyre

Friend Christine always suggests a walk just when I most need one. After a day spent preparing for 'SuperLearning Day' tomorrow, I was ready to bin the computer so to get out into the Park Estate was just right. The evening sun was low in the sky as we climbed up through the wood to Lady Blantyre's Rock. Lady B was the mother-in-law of William Busfeild Ferrand who bought the estate in 1639. He set about keeping out the peasants whilst his mother-in-law liked to walk our trail and sit beneath her rock to admire the view.

The view across the valley is now obscured by the mature trees but climb a little higher to the memorial and you get an idea of why Lady B loved this spot. A couple of years ago a group of chainsaw carvers made a number of statues for the estate and this one is of Lady Blantyre herself. I'm hoping a botanist blipper will be able to identify the growth which has amazingly given Lady B a necklace, flowing locks and a floral decoration on her hat!

I also thought Lady B would like to celebrate Hazy Heap's 100th Blip today as we are all looking forward to seeing the finished chain saw carving.
