Murder, Mystery and Microscopes!
Another night, another Edinburgh Science Festival lecture!!
Tonight, I went with Ruth to see the author Stuart MacBride. He was hosting a discussion called Murder, Mystery and Miscroscopes which was about Forensic Science. He had 2 forensics experts with him to explain various aspects of forensics and in particular, how forensics teams gather evidence from crime scenes where bodies are involved.
Stuart gave readings from a couple of his books and then the discussion revolved around similar crimes that have happened in real life.
Sorry - for those of you who don't know Stuart MacBride, he writes crime novels based in Aberdeen and his books are very good.
It was a fascinating evening and we really enjoyed it!
When I was little, I loved the 'Quincy, MD' programmes and wanted to be a forensic scientist! I actually did apply for a job with the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science Labs as my post-doc position was finishing but there were 800 applicants for 8 positions so I didn't even get an interview. But it's still something that fascinates me even now.
