Where we were last night
..the Royal Concert Hall watching Rufus Wainwright.
His set this time comprised a first half, with a set of songs, no clapping, with visuals in the background. The songs played were all very dark, upsetting, or sad and were utterly compelling. Rufus wore the longest cape I have ever seen.
The second half was also just him on a piano, but more relaxed, we were allowed to clap as much as we wanted, and it was as hilarious as the first half was harrowing.
He sang a song of his mothers, Walking Song, which was heart wrenching but a fitting tribute to her.
His voice is as powerful as I've ever heard it. He's quite clearly the most magnificent person and performer, it still bemuses me that he isn't more widely embraced.
