Tourist Snap -- The Ramparts of Lucca
I apologize immediately for poor quality of this blip. It was taken from a moving car window. Excuses, excuses. A good pic of the walls from another source: LUCCA WALLS AND MOAT
The city of Lucca is surrounded entirely by walls built in the 16th - 17th Centuries to protect the city from invaders, particulary the enemies from Florence. The walls are made of small bricks. The walls are so thick that trees have been planted on top. Travellers and tourists alike love to stroll along the top or even better, ride a bike. It's around four kms for the whole circuit.
The moat around the city, now all grass, is a favourite dog walking area. The black shape is a large poodle having a rest.
