Kampong Ayer ,Bandar Seri Begawan , Brunei Darrusa
This is Brunei's Famous (?) Venice of South East Asia..
Well.. that's what the guide books claim.
Its basically a water village..
homes are built on stilts over the water..
There are Police stations, fire stations with water fireboats.. schools , hospitals etc etc.
There are water taxis running back and forth all day.. its amazing to see..
lots of the people in the kampong, keep their poultry underneath their homes.. and many run trades from them too..
I have heard that some people want this area gone..BUT i think that's very sad.
This is part of the make up of the place..
Its pretty unique to this part of the world (SE Asia) and taking a boat ride round here is pretty exhilarating too. (how they don't crash, especially at night, is a mystery)
In the background is the juxtaposition of life..
the Istana (Palace) where the Sultan of Brunei resides..
Rumour has it that the golden dome is 3 inches thick with Gold?
it has over 1700 rooms too..
Its HUGE....
FYI (for those who arent familiar with brunei, its above Australia, singapore is west, china north and philipines are east!)
