Miners Memorial, Kirkconnel

A poignant commemoration of the lives lost in an industry that was once the local mainstay but which is now (in terms of deep mining at least ) completely absent from the area and indeed from Scotland. It has left personal, social, economic and environmental scars but also - in that curious human way - pride in the tradition and many, many stories.
