Windmill Week - Day 7 - Widde Meuln and Bovenrijge
The seventh and final blip in the windmill week series. A picture of De Widde Meuln (The White Mill) and Bovenrijge in one shot: I couldn't think of any better way to finish the series! These mills are located in Ten Boer; the village where I live.
Both mills have appeared in previous blips (here and here). The white house in front of the Widde Meuln is the home of my in-laws; it's a beautiful house on a great location!
The Bovenrijge is a saw mill that was originally built in 1903 as a hobby project. After years of neglect, it collapsed in 1976. It was rebuilt on its current location in 1985.
The Widde Meuln was built in 1839. Since 1935, the mill was without walkway, cap and sails. Plans to completely renovate the mill had been around since 1978, but it took until 2001 for the new walkway to be built. In 2004, the hull of the mill was restored and in 2006 a new cap was hoisted into position. In 2006 the sails were installed and on October 28 (my birthday!) of that year the mill was running again after more than 70 years!
This weeks windmill news is coming from Kolham, where the windmill Entreprise (no, this is not a typo) is being rebuilt after a fire completely destroyed the mill in 2000 (check here for a picture of the fire). Yesterday, a large part of the hull was transported from Heiligerlee, where it was built, to Kolham. Pictures of the transport can be found here.
Windmill week started here.
