Tio Pepe
Pepe is our waiter at Tramonti, Avda. Diagonal, Barcelona. Normally only the charismatic owner of this Italian restaurant, Franco, and his well-heeled Spanish clients are photographed here, so it was with some pride (and mirth) that Pepe went in front of my 30 year old, manual Nikkor 50 mm, 1.4 lens on its first outing on my new DLSR!
For those Edinburghers viewing this, we love Pepe so much that he has an Edinburgh crystal 'Thistle' whisky tumbler in his cabinet at home, courtesy of Mr. and Mrs. Barrioboy, and used to receive a postcard ever year from another faithful Scottish client, now sadly passed on.
Technical note: the lens works! The camera only allows AP or M operation and although it seems to expose correctly, only displays f0, f1, f2 etc. to show the stops up from f1.4 to f16 - at least this is visible below the view finder. It's very strange being so hands again - for some shots today I even used the manual focus distance rangefinder to set focus without looking through the lens, and the yellow line on the lens mounting to eke out the DOF at f16 to the maximum...fun!
