Nature's poker chips

Did you know that carrots come in purple? Neither did I. Apparently, the purple was bred out of them by the Dutch royal family a long time ago to produce a vegetable in the royal colours. So now orange carrots are the norm, and purple carrots are the novelty, rather than the other way round. More on wikipedia.

Today esme dragged me, slightly unwillingly, through the rain and cold winds to Hectors in Stockbridge for a late-ish lunch of eggs benedict. Boy, was it ever worth it. Yum! Theirs are the best we've found in Edinburgh. Tasty, tasty bacon, lovely poached eggs, squishy english muffin, great hollandaise sauce, and a nice small portion of chunky chips. Then I spotted they had Black Cat on tap. Yum again! Sneaked in a cheeky pint of it after lunch, as it would have been rude not to. Haven't seen that stuff around for aeons. Hectors is awesome.
