*hannah's days*

Today I had a visitor

At first, I thought it was just window shopping, looking in at my rather messy and cluttered bedroom.

But then I realised it was window shopping, looking out at the lovely outside world...

I ran away. (there is a big long story about why I am scared of wasps, but I will nutshell it for you: aged about 8, at Poolewe Gardens, near Ullapool, I ran too close to a nest without noticing. I thought "oh my legs are itchy", looked down, and my legs were covered from the feet to the knees with wasps. Cue screaming, crying, hyperventilating, having to be carried back to the car, dead wasps in my shoes... and then a life long fear, which is usually ok if I am outside but has been known to riduce me to tears on many occasions. I didn't cry when I got stung by a dive-bombing little b*st*rd last September, just got very angry! And it was sore!)

And found the wasp spray, which was living under the sink when we moved in. We've never had to use it.

I said a little prayer that the spray would work, and ventured back into my room.

The wasp was nowhere to be seen.

I wondered, "was it actually outside? Was I imagining its insideness?", and slowly wandered around the room. No sign. I gave a good spray in the direction of the window, and got out again just in case.

Tweeted a bit about it, spoke to friends on facebook, trying to work out where the f*ck it had come from.

About 10 mins later I went back in, and had another wander around - and then saw it crawling, very slowly, on the windowsill. Sprayed some more, and ran away.

And came back 10 mins later, walked over, and saw its legs still moving! Sprayed some more.

Came back after physio, and it had somehow crawled under a badge, and was still occasionally twitching. Finally had the courage to move some stuff, and take down the frame it was on, put it on the floor, take a photo, and then stick a glass over it incase it miraculously springs back to life, ready to get me.

Much as I dislike the little thing, it is sad to see a living creature curled up and dying. But I really can't deal with them, and there was no way I was going to be able to go close enough to it to open the window or deal with it in some other humane way!

:-( none of the windows or the outside door were open, I really don't know how it got in... think I'm going to have to move bedrooms, I doubt I'll be able to sleep in there! Luckily we have a spare room at the mo.

Cross your fingers for no more wasps.

PS this is the point where you now tell me it was either a) a hornet and so I've killed a whole nest - woooo! or b) a bee and that I'm responsible for their decline...
