...and behind door number 12
This morning I took a trip to Starbucks, even though I rather dislike the place, as it has finally come around to the time of year when you can get an eggnog latte from them. I love the stuff and its the only place I know of in Edinburgh where you can get it. This morning there was a group of 10 American tourists in the queue ahead of me. They all ordered the same thing...but it still took them a good 15 minutes to give the girl working at the till their order. They then just stood there, after they were told to wait at the end of the bar for their coffees. It had to be explained to them four times and even then some of them were confused and seemed to think the girl was going to bring their coffee out to their table. You'd think they'd never been to a Starbucks before (trust me, it works the same way in North America as it does here). When it came to me it was automatically assumed that I was sitting in and so got my eggnog latte in a mug. Something about my accent made me connected to the aforementioned tourists and so I sat in...as far away from the tourists as I could. I wasn't long in my seat trying to read and enjoy my latte when a woman asked me if she could join me at my table. I said sure, what else could I say. When her husband arrived with their coffees he proclaimed "this is f-ing rubbish", and they bickered for the duration of their stay. Lovely.
