this is the railroad draw bridge behind the merchandise mart. it used to carry trains across the river and into the belly of the mart. nothing arrives to the mart via railroad anymore and now the bridge is permanently locked in its upright position. today there were some picnic-ers lunching under its concrete counterweight. so i guess it's still useful. kind of.
