The back way out of the station

What a terrible bunch of photos I found in the camera when I got back from Gateshead - snapping out of the train window is sadly very hit and miss - today it was all misses. The train was quite full and I noticed several weary looking travellers with huge bags that had airline baggage labels on them, presumably straggling back from the Channel ports, the Eurostar, or some inconvenient airport.

The train came in on platform 2 which is handy for a rapid exit into Calton Road instead of battling up Waverley Steps. In the distance here you can make out a bit of that curvy footbridge over Leith Street which had been much blipped from the inside.
