Goodbye France - Hello UK
After no bed on Saturday night, it was a relief to get some sleep in an Etap Hotel. Up at 6.30 am, enjoyed the Petit Déjeuner, then 8 am departure. We thought we were going for a mid morning Calais to Dover ferry crossing, however we were suddenly turning into the Eurotunnel Terminal. As the bus drivers couldn't speak English and we had no Polish, we never found out why there had been a change of plan, but it was certainly the best of options. No foot passengers were being allowed on the ferries, so the bus was booked through to the UK. Customs checks seemed more strict than usual, however it was a very smooth journey through the tunnel and by 11 am we were back in the UK.
We headed for Maidstone services where we changed over to transport which had come down from Glasgow. Apart from a queue at the Dartford Tunnel and a ten minute halt on the M25, we had a good drive back to Scotland up the M1 avoiding Birmingham, arriving home around 10 pm. What a relief to be home. 52 hour journey from Krakow to Glasgow. The flight out from Edinburgh to Krakow had taken 2 hours, 30 minutes.
This is one of my last views of France, early in the morning, taken through the bus window. I really do like the shapes and lines.
