Slave to fashion

Torin had a clothing related meltdown this morning. It is going to be 80 degrees in Austin today, so I gently suggested wearing a t-shirt and shorts. As I expected, this did not go well. Torin, you see, loves wearing jeans. They make him feel "awesome" and he wants to look "awesome" at any cost. He has an image to uphold and he's not even 5 until next month.

This disagreement turned into him hiding under his bed and saying he was going to "run away", to which I replied "Well, then you'll have nowhere to live or any food to eat". I went back to getting ready for work and he got himself dressed in the outfit you see above. I failed to mention, he also loves long sleeves, as they also make him look "awesome".

We ended up compromising by trading the sweater for a red (his favorite color) t-shirt and rushing off to school, since all of this had made us late. We forgot the hat in all the turmoil and he went off to school slightly deflated. He has requested to wear his hear in a mohawk style tomorrow so I will try and get a pic of that.

Reminds me of a song:

They seek him here, they seek him there,
His clothes are loud, but never square.
It will make or break him so he's got to buy the best,
Cause he's a dedicated follower of fashion.
