By the Pool of Cletts
This is on the east side of South Ronaldsay. I like these old winches, which were used to pull fishing boats up the beach and safe from the storm. Talking of storms..this is in bright sunlight, but an extremely sharp squall blew through about five minutes later. I was well prepared, given that that's how the weather's been all week, but I felt sorry for the mourners who had just arrived for a funeral at the chapel at Kirkhouse.
I walked north past The Grud, Gasander, and Skerloom and onto Grim Ness. I passed the farm of Honeysgeo, which is one of the nicest place-names around here.

Some seals and lots of birds around, but I think the migrants are still struggling northward.
