Making crops grow . . . NH4 NO3

Ammonium nitrate is contained under high pressure in these cylinder/trailers. This chemical is one of the main industrial fertilizers used in this part of the USA breadbasket. Farm tractors pull a plow-like implement with blades guiding hoses to a few inches below the top of the soil. These hoses are connected to one of these ammonium trailers being pulled behind the implement.

Many a year ago, my summer job was to fill these containers and take them to the farmers and retrieve and refill the empty ones.
