Charity close to home.
Over ten years ago I met an inspirational woman.
She had lost her 3 year old son to undiagnosed asthma and was setting up a charity in his name.
Since then she has worked tirelessly and achieved such amazing things. I am lucky to be able to call her my friend.
Asthma kills, someone every seven hours, and it kills children. .
Every 16 minutes a child is admitted to hospital in the UK because of their asthma
The UK has the highest prevalence of severe wheeze in children aged 13?14 years worldwide
:(
However, small changes are happening, asthma uk has finally agreed that emergency asthma kits in schools are a good idea.
My friends charity has supported countless school nurses and soon PE teachers to receive asthma training.
The charity also sponsors an asthma nurse at Birmingham Childrens Hospital.
I am proud to be a trustee of the charity and proud of my friend and all she does. It will never make up for her loss, its like a drop in an ocean. It is all in the name of George though and proof that sometimes amazing things arise from tragedy.
