Litterly Stretching
Visit to Homebase this morning first thing to acquire a pair of wellies for our big clean up down at the Delph Pond. (10% off day, cheap wellies)
By the time Euan and I got down the work was well underway and there were plenty of volunteers getting themselves kitted out with 'Keep Scotland Tidy' vest and grappling hooks for fishing out the litter from the pond. We picked our spot and started filling up our bin liners. There was a really nice community spirit going on as everybody mucked in and began dragging out cans, bottles, carrier bags, scooters, plastic crates, bread baskets, traffic cones, twisted bits of metal and even (sadly) a dead wee duckling. We even had three men in a boat helping out.
We kept well away from the nesting swans and ducks, even though its this area that really needs cleaning up.
From the Army Cadets and the Community Police that were here and from the Primary school kids to the Grannies there was real enthusiasm to get the area cleaned up and ready for summer. After three hours or so the place was looking much more presentable and ready to welcome the cygnets in a couple of weeks. It's these kind of events that make you realise there's still a thriving element of community around, even in our 100mph devil-may-care day-to-day life styles.
We headed back for a well earned Magners over ice (well I did, Euan fancied a quick half first).
Nobody drowned.
Knackered now. Have a jolly Saturday evening all.
