Lyra's Introduction to the Classics
Back Blipped
When I met Tom, he was a Classics undergraduate at Oxford. I was really impressed and a little puzzled that his studies of literature, history, philosophy and so on were all conducted in Latin and Ancient Greek. I was studying experimental psychology. It was all in English. Far less impressive (though rather more useful afterwards it has to be said!)
The reading list for Tom's Ten Final exams (or 'Greats' as they're known by classicists) was so extensive that he reckoned he should start introducing Lyra to the Classics now, just in case she were to be daft enough to want to follow in his footsteps. This way, unlike him, she might just about have read everything on the list in time for her Finals in about 21 years time!
