limited to the point of absence
There are lots of interestingly dilapidated bits of Ayr, though I always feel a bit more wary wandering through them than wandering through similarly dilapidated bits of Edinburgh. Some of the old bits of building around the railway look like they might be interestingly investigable at ground level but there are sufficient amounts of dissuadingly-suspicious people visible near them to dissuade me. The industrial-looking bit usually feels relatively quietly safeish but it abuts a depleted-feeling commercial bit which I'd probably avoid outside busyish times. There are usually one or two people attempting to deflect traffic using the power of inebriation in the general area and whilst I've generally got to know the place geographically satisfactorily over the last few visits by means of extending walking-around I'd still prefer to get to know the shortcuts and escape routes and which roads end up in dead-ends of unsafe-feeling areas before wandering too deeply into them.
