The secret beach

It's not really secret

It's just that you need to know it's there.

A little hidden cove where the Famous Five would have been at home.

Where otters leave footprints and fulmars soar

We cycled, followed the clifftop and picked our way down to the shore

Ate sandwiches with real sand and mourned the forgotten crisps

The sensible ones guddled in rockpools and built fortresses of sand

The dog chased sticks and buried bones

Whilst the selkie child went for a swim before turning the same colour as the northern sea
