Thimbleberry at Huckleberry Regional Botanical Pre

The appearence of this gem of a flower means that we're around the middle of spring here. It's interesting, many naturalists say that northern California's spring begins in November with the first rain... many plants start growing rapidly then and we have our first wildflowers in January. The rain usually ends in April, although it's gone on later this year. June is generally dry, with much less growth. Things actually start to wither and fade after that, and we have dry summers. Again, this is an El Nino year, with later rain than usual. WHo knows what will happen???

Thimbleberry will get big lovely berries later in the season. I'll try to get some pix of those. The first Douglas iris and wild roses also made their appearance this weekend.
