Our five mile world

Sandy

Twelve years ago last week, Bill's sister Helen died. She was 57 years old and thanks to our amazing community nursing team, Macmillan nurses and our doctors, she was able to die peacefully in her own bed at home surrounded by her family.

Sandy was her loyal cross border collie who had a mind of his own. If he saw Helen packing a suitcase, he would leap into the back of her white van and REFUSE to leave.
He had to be dragged out and then he would sulk all day long.

He missed her when she died and so we 'inherited' him.

This is a beautifully crafted metal scuplture of Sandy that Helen commissioned Morag Cummings to make.
Iron fairy sculptures

Sandy settled in well with us and our other two dogs, an Italian Spinone called Basil and a black lab called Ben.
He used to leave 'presents' for us all over the yard and grass for unsuspecting visitors to stand in. Yuk! So... when we were looking for a place to put the sculpture, we thought that on top of our septic tank would be most appropriate!

That is todays blip.

Cancer is a horrible disease but..................

What cancer cannot do:

Cancer is so limited.

It cannot cripple love, it cannot shatter hope.

It cannot corrode faith, it cannot eat away peace.

It cannot destroy confidence, it cannot kill friendship.

It cannot shut out memories, it cannot silence courage.

It cannot invade the soul, it cannot quench the spirit.

Our greatest enemy is not disease, but despair.

Cancer might rob you of that blissful ignorance that once led you to believe that tomorrow stretched on forever, but in exchange, you are granted the vision to see each day as a precious gift to be used wisely and richly.
