The Mansion House Postcard assignment10

The Mansion House was built in1828 of Georgian Tradition.Originally Calderstones Park was part of the 1583 acre estate of the Manor of Allerton.Around 1726 the area known as Calderstones Park was sold to settle family debts.
It was bought eventually by Thomas Martin who added to it then sold it to Joseph Need Walker a lead shot manufacturer in 1825.
The main building was known as "The Old House". By 1828 the old farmhouse had been demolished to make way for the Mansion House.
In 1875 the estate was sold to Charles MacIver who was a shipping magnate. he joined up with Samuel Cunard to establish "British and North American Royal Steam Packet Company - Cunard Line. It is thought that much of the planting was done due to MacIver as there are many trees of North American origin in the park
It was sold in 1902 to Liverpool Corporation.
The Mansion House now houses council offices.
Just behind where I stood to take the picture is a Ha Ha suggesting that the land beyond that had been used as Pasture Land. Here endeth the History lesson. Old habits die hard.
(I was a bit annoyed as there were two security vehicles parked outside which spoil the front view a bit.)Also the ramp, though necessary ,does detract from the Georgian frontage.
