Europe Day
Every year the European Institutions open their doors to the general public for one day around 9 May, because this is the anniversary of the 1950 Schuman declaration. This declaration is seen as the "birth certificate" of the European Union.
This celebration (also known as Europe Day) is a chance for people to find out more about the EU and what it does, with events and activities for all ages.
Various EU buildings are opening their doors today: the Berlaymont building (home to the European Commission), the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union (see blip of yesterday), the European Economic and Social Committee and the Committee of the Regions.
I took this picture in front of the European Parliament. I chose this picture as my blip because there is a lot happening on it: a father talking to his kids in front, people are taking pictures behind him and other people are watching the flamenco dancers on the stage.
