the pigeon lane...
a late night plan to for an early morning photowalk...not sure of where to go, we ended up at one of the old bridges in the old city (again!)...the road on the bridge is divided into three lanes...the two outer lanes are for traffic moving in either direction...and the lane sandwiched between the two, is reserved...at least it seems so...I've never seen any vehicle movement on that lane...that lane is reserved for the pigeons...every day, the locals would come with a bag of cereals and scatter them on this middle lane...the pigeons, perched on the electric lines above, will peacefully fly down and settle on this lane, savouring themselves to the feast...this happens day after day, year after year...I wont be surprised if I were told that the Govt actually made this middle lane exclusively for pigeon feeding.
later during the day, the census officials arrived for the headcount...India is going to announce its latest population stats early next year. There was some news recently that this year's census will also take into account the caste of the citizens. Something that I dont understand - I didn't even try to. The officials told me that the decision was announced a day or so before and they haven't received any 'orders' yet and hence would continue with the regular counting process. The nature of data being collected is quite strange and am sure doesnt even make sense in today's life - not in the urban area at least. The process is quite lengthy and it took almost 45 minutes and more than 3 A3 size paper sheets to gather all the data for three people. And then she said that she'll have to organize it all up at home. Quite a task!
