On December 8, 2004, while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale. Abbott was shot a total of five times, at point-blank range in the back of the head. He was 38 years old.

i was at a friends house by the local hospital
when the ambulances for the incident went by.

the rocks out front
have been painted in memory / tribute to the guitarist.

Pantera (band he is best known for) has received has ranked 45 on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and fifth on MTV's "Top 10 Greatest Heavy Metal Bands of All-Time."
