Dog Writer

My first job in journalism was with The American Field, a weekly sporting dog news magazine published in Chicago.

I was a dog writer.

The publisher, William F. Brown, was a mentor in my early career. He wrote several books on how to train hunting dogs and about field trials.

I still remember things he taught me, such as to leave out the word "over" when using the word "mull."
