beach life...
I really like it whenever Arlo's Nana and Grandad go on their holidays because it means I am forced into taking an extra day off through the week so I can look after Boyface on the day Nana and Grandad are away.
I usually completely forget that I am not due back to work till Thursday and that is a lovely thing to remember on a Saturday or Sunday.
In my head we were going to have a scorchio day today and Arlo and I were going to picnic on the beach and build sandcastles and all that jazz. What really happened is that we ran around the house like crazy idiots trying to get everything into a bag or onto a sandwich or onto our bodies whilst time ticktickticked away from us and our 'early start' to the day dwindled away from us like a lost dinghy on an angry river.
Then just to top it all off, as we hurtled round the house trying to find the bucket and spade and the ball and the suncream (ho ho ho that's funny!) both me and Arlo stood in cat poo with our bare feet. Thanks Boris - THANKS.
By the time we bundled ourselves out of the house the sun had well and truly gone and the bitter temperature kicked in nicely. We still did a bit of beaching but the sea was pretty wild and Arlo was deeply suspicious of it and then it started to rain.
Before all that though, we built a sandcastle, did a bit of beach combing and enjoyed a picnic of eggy sandwiches, crisps and red pepper and butternut squash soup.
I dread to think what would encourage us to ditch a picnic. The world ending, possibly. Or worse!
