I certainly feel quite the same with this little kitty. Last night we did quite a bit of night sailing for navigation practice. The route I got was really hard with navigation lights marking dangerous areas, tight passages through islands. I did really well! It was a great learning experience and I came away feeling much more confident. We arrived late at night, something like 2:00am at a sailing yachts anchorage, no village or town around just a couple of sailing boats nearby where we dropped our anchor. For this place being so isolated we were really surprised to find them. Still this morning the opportunity to go swimming straight out of bed was not missed.
During the day we sailed to the island of Ydra, a pretty town but with a really busy harbor! After lunch a bit more sailing got us back to the island of Poros and the chance for a few more ice cold beers :-)
Today's best lessons actually were to be had while we were anchored and watching the other yachts come in. Two skippers, one in Ydra one in Poros, doing some really stupid things. The one in Ydra did not dropped an anchor at all and as he told us later he did it on purpose because he was staying only for a short time to have lunch and he didn't want his anchor to be fouled by other ships. Disaster was narrowly avoided when we help push the boat away from the pier as a few waves from an incoming ferry would have damaged it! The other in Poros dropped his anchor way too close to the pier and so it failed to catch. He was lucky that there was virtually no wind or waves! We had a few good laughs when we saw him while having a beer and realizing his mistake hurrying to leave the port in order to better drop his anchor, an action he did a couple of times until he had it correct.
