Artichokes

This time last year I was picking bowlfuls of these violette artichokes from the garden, but this year the plants were knocked back to ground level by cold weather in February and March and they're only just recovering. Today I picked the first two very small ones to cook in olive oil this evening. I hope we get a few more over the next few weeks before the weather gets too dry for them!
