Couldn't believe my eyes
Music session in Ranelagh today, which would be considered one of the better addresses in Dublin. Our host laid on a delicious gâteaux, which he said was intended to 'help counter any lingering post trip blues'. It did just that. He'd also set a theme for the day (we occasionally do this), which was 'Hate the Composer; Love the Piece'. I have a blind spot when it comes to bel canto opera, so I chose Bellini and brought along his Oboe Concerto, which is blissfully unlike his usual output.
We walked down to Coman's pub when the music was over, for our usual post-music chit-chat. It was near there that I spotted this restaurant offer. Wine is ridiculously expensive here, and especially so when ordered in a restaurant, so it's no small thing to be enticed by a complimentary bottle, no matter no plonkish it might turn out to be. A definite sign of the times.
