Bumblebees & Chestnut Trees
It is hard to beat this time of the year. The majestic Horse Chestnut Trees are in full blossom, their heavenly scent wafting across the vibrant landscape, and carpets of Bluebells lie intensely underfoot.
Whatever you do over the next two weeks, promise me you'll spend some time, with or without your camera, under the majestic boughs of this quintessentailly English tree. The hum of buzzing bees filling the air, whilst they gorge themselves foraging on the flower bracks of what will eventually become Conkers.
No bees; no conkers!
Tonight, I spotted loads of this one, my favourite, the Red Tailed Bumblebee, Bombus lapidarius, along with lots of Buff Tailed Bumblebees, Bombus terrestris and some Common Carder Bees, Bombus pascuorums.
Would you know your Bombus lapidarius from your Bombus pascuorum? Find out more with our Bumblebee Identification Charts
