Meet Snowflake...

An entirely black cat called Snowflake? Odd isn't it.

Let me explain.

Around this time last year, a stray cat appeared and started to come in through the cat-flap when he thought the coast was clear. We would spy on his furious eating and strange ways. He had a big round belly but looked rather disheveled and fearful.

Building up a mutual trust that would allow us close enough to grab him took around four weeks. At the vets, we were told that he was a tom-cat with a belly full of worms and a coat full of fleas. Poor little man needed a good MOT and a new home.

We paid for the MOT and the RSPCA kindly helped with the neutering costs. The stray was ready for a new home and needed a name. As he was jet-black (and we weren't keeping him) there was only one name on the cards. Snowflake.

When the day came to drop him off at the cattery, I sobbed like a baby. I drove the four miles wishing that I had windscreen-wipers instead of eyelids. It was a hot day in June, and I was desperate to get this little cat out of the hot car and into his temporary home.

Then a little catty miracle happened.

The cattery signs said open, my watch hadn't stopped and yet the gates were closed. I had no choice but to return home - even with the air-con on max it was far too hot to wait. I arrived home to a confused Paul, but we both agreed that is was fate. I let Snowy out of his cat-box and that was it. He went straight up to bed and has been with us ever since.

Note how long his front teeth are, and how they thrust outward from his mouth. Note also his big face and wide jaw. Both are classic features of a tom-cat who had time to grow into a man before the neutering process.

His looks have earned him the nickname 'The Face of Bo' (from Dr Who). I like to think that he always knew that if he came into our house, he'd never leave. He is now the most affectionate cat you could ever want to meet, and we have snow all the year round.
