Field of Dreams
I grew up in Alberton, South of Johannesburg. The Alberton athletics / rugby / soccer club is just down the road from my parents' house (they built there after they got married in 1969 and have been living the same house ever since).
We used to go down to the club for athletics practice with my dad in the evenings, attended sporting events over weekends and went to the gymnasium in the mornings. It's one of those places that had just been around forever and, in my mind, will probably always be.
After a 10 year period of studying in Pretoria, working in the Eastern Cape and travelling Europe, I returned to and settled down in Alberton with a husband and 2 dogs of my own. I found myself returning to the same club after so many years... only now it's to run Paddington and Baloo before sunrise in the mornings!
When I arrived there with the dogs this morning, it was so misty, I could barely see 50 metres in front of me. But as I looked up, I saw all the floodlights towering over the mist, clearly contrasted against the morning sky. For the first time ever, I saw the beauty of this old place that had always been a part of my life... So I took this picture of my childhood field of dreams:)
