Bangkok still smolders
Two days after the destruction, fires still smolder. I took a tour of ground zero today by motorbike, through the litter and rubbish, bits of people's lives left behind, soot from burnt tires, shells of burnt out military trucks, barricades and patrolling soldiers. (Click on embedded links for more photos.)
The fire at Central World, Asia's second largest shopping mall, is still being fought. Firefighters couldn't reach the blaze on Wednesday because of sniper fire so the whole thing is destroyed. The city authorities have already announced they will have to demolish the structure. Another shopping mall, a superstore and a movie theater are in the same condition. In all, there were 37 incidents of arson on Wednesday.
I want to thank all of you in Blip world, especially all of you who commented on my photos over the past two days and sent their wishes for our safety and for the well-being of all of Thailand. I'll get around to most of you in the next few days.
