was only good for filament
no one remembers
davy or swan or brush--
with light bulbs over their heads
ages before.
they must have grown tired
of stumbling
in the wee morning hours
groping for dirty trousers
or the cheeks of dutiful wives
agitated by desire
to cage the fire's flight
and illuminate
a singular path.
