Cadiz
A manual stitch of three photos showing Cadiz, seen from the top of Torre Taviro. This is only one side of Cadiz of course. On the far left is the cathedral with two towers (I climbed the right one) and the golden dome behind it. then all around spreads the city of Cadiz. Many rooftop terraces here, mainly used for drying the laundry :)
The big white building is the central Mercato (market). The outside is the old part, the inner part is new. They are in the process of renovating the outer part, so you cannot go in it at the moment. You can also see a couple of watchtowers, one right in the front (which has a small turret/sentry on it). These were build by the rich merchants of Cadiz, so they could see when their ships were arriving.
On the far right is one of the castles of Cadiz, that extends into the sea. Just in front of that is a big building which was Cadiz' orphanage.
Fun fact is that Cadiz was actually founded approximately 1100 before Christ by Venetians! And after that a LOT happened to the city. I went to the archeological museum that is built around Roman ruins, and they showed different layers in the earth of different eras and also images of the shape and size of Cadiz over the centuries. It was interesting to see how it grew and shrank (partly because of earthquakes) and then grew again to the city it is today. I reckon anyone could spend a great week here, either at the beach or enjoying the rich history of the town, or both :)
